Michigan unveils uniforms but not roster

August 29, 2017 at 5:02AM

Jordan Brand unveiled the all-maize uniforms that No. 11 Michigan will wear on Saturday's opener against No. 17 Florida at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, though the names of all of the Wolverines players who will take the field for the season opener still remain under wraps. Michigan hasn't provided an updated roster to the public since just before the start of last season, and Wolverines Coach Jim Harbaugh indicated last week that one won't be coming until Wednesday, three days before Michigan takes on the Gators.

Harbaugh had no interest providing any more information about his roster, including who will start at quarterback for the Wolverines, during his meeting with reporters on Monday. Returning starter Wilton Speight and fifth-year senior John O'Korn have emerged as the leading candidates.

"I have not heard Florida announce who their starting quarterback will be, and we'd love to have that information," Harbaugh said. "So, no, we're not announcing our starting quarterback. As I've said before, people have made a big deal about our roster or not announcing a starting quarterback. I have not seen a starting quarterback come out of Florida. Never any mention of that. Very interesting. We'd like to have that information from them, I'm sure they'd like to have it from us, and right now neither is giving that information."

Stanley named Iowa QB

Iowa quarterback Nathan Stanley was listed as the starter for Saturday's opener against Wyoming.

Stanley, a sophomore, spent the offseason competing with junior Tyler Wiegers for the opening left by C.J. Beathard's graduation.

Stanley was 5-for-9 passing in 2016 as a true freshman — the first newcomer to play for Iowa at quarterback since Drew Tate in 2003.

Etc.

• No. 8 Washington will be without AP All-American linebacker Azeem Victor for Friday's opener at Rutgers after he was suspended one game for a violation of team rules. The Huskies will also be without cornerback Austin Joyner after he was suspended two games, also for violating team rules.

• No. 23 Texas appears set to start sophomore Shane Buechele at quarterback in the season opener against Maryland. Buechele started 12 games last season and set a Texas freshman passing record of nearly 3,000 yards.

• Alabama coach Nick Saban said defensive lineman Raekwon Davis was released from the hospital. Davis was shot in the right leg outside a Tuscaloosa bar early Sunday morning. Saban said Davis is getting treatment and is "day to day" for Saturday's opener against No. 3 Florida State.

• Florida has an eighth player suspended for its season opener against Michigan. Coach Jim McElwain said receiver James Robinson, who was cited for marijuana possession last week, won't play Saturday.

•The BYU-LSU game will be played Saturday night at the Superdome in New Orleans after massive flooding in Houston from Hurricane Harvey forced it to be relocated from NRG Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Dallas, San Antonio, Jacksonville, Nashville and Orlando also reached out about hosting the game.
