MIAC: Augsburg freshman QB Scott has big day

Freshman Ayrton Scott accounted for 402 yards in total offense and four touchdowns to lead Augsburg past St. John's 48-17 in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Scott rushed for 143 yards and passed for 259 yards and four touchdowns while Jerise Washington rushed for a career-high 140 yards and two TDs to lead the Auggies (4-1, 3-1 MIAC).

St. John's (2-4, 0-4) led 10-7 early in the second quarter, but Augsburg scored 41 unanswered points to open a 48-10 lead.

Augsburg outgained St. John's 587-238. The 31-point margin of victory was the largest for Augsburg against St. John's, a series the Johnnies lead 63-9-2. It's the first time since 1929 that the Auggies have won consecutive games in the series.

St. Thomas 28, Gustavus 14: The Tommies, ranked No. 4 in Division III, overcame six turnovers to defeat the visiting Gusties.

Matt O'Connell rushed for 147 yards -- including a 74-yard TD run -- and passed for 220 yards and two TDs for the Tommies (5-0, 3-0), who led 21-0 early in the third quarter.

St. Olaf 48, Hamline 14: Dan Dobson threw three TD passes and Michael Thai rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Oles to the victory in St. Paul.

Dobson passed for a 140 yards and rushed for a season-high 84 yards for the Oles (5-1, 4-1 MIAC).

Austin Duncan rushed for 147 yards and a TD for the Pipers (1-4, 0-4).

Carleton 21, Macalester 20: Paul Hoffer returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown and Anthony Kemper caught his first two touchdown receptions of the season to help the Knights outlast the Scots in Northfield.
