Vikings stadium worker's autopsy concluded
A construction worker who fell from the roof of the new Vikings stadium project Wednesday died of blunt force injuries to the head, the medical examiner's office announced Friday. Jeramie Gruber, 35, of Northfield, died after a 50-foot fall into a snow gutter. Another employee of North St. Paul-based Berwald Roofing, who has not been identified, was injured. Minnesota's Occupational Safety and Health Division and the medical examiner's office are still investigating, according to a Friday statement.
Man wounds himself after 4-hour standoff
A four-hour standoff between St. Paul police and an armed man ended Friday evening after the man was taken to a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The standoff began around 2:30 p.m. after police responded to a domestic incident on the 400 block of Jessamine Avenue E., said St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders. The man was considered suicidal. A SWAT team responded and area residents were evacuated, as were students at a nearby school, Linders said. The man, who was not identified, was transported to Regions Hospital shortly before 7 p.m. His condition was unknown.
New Ulm chief charged in domestic assault
The police chief of New Ulm has been accused of domestic assault and disorderly conduct. Myron Wieland has been jailed in Faribault County since Wednesday. Watonwan County is prosecuting the case. County Attorney Stephen Lindee said Friday that Wieland is charged with three misdemeanors, accused of assaulting a person at his home in New Ulm on Monday. Wieland, 54, has been chief in New Ulm for six years and has been with the department for 28 years.
Dock worker dies after falling into barge
Winona police say a dock worker has died after falling into an empty barge. Brent Allen Burt, 24, of Winona, who worked for CD Corp., was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday.
