Mercedes-Benz fashion week: (Un)usual suspects

February 16, 2011 at 12:28AM

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, Minnesotans popped up in some unexpected places.

At Derek Lam's show on Tuesday, the front row was lined with the top magazine editors, including Anna Wintour of Vogue, Glenda Bailey of Harper's Bazaar and Linda Wells of Allure.

However, Nate Berkus, who grew up in Minnesota, and his mom, Nancy Golden of Minnetonka, seemed to attract the most flashbulbs. It was Golden's first time at a runway event. "It was ridiculous," Golden said. "It was such a treat to be there with Nate."

Golden received several compliments on her chain-linked leather jewelry, which she creates under the label GoldenWear. Her designs might pair well with Lam's classic sportswear. The collection included fur-sleeved coats, a trend that has been everywhere.

At the glamorous Badgley Mischka runway show, a Minnesota contingent was in the presence of such celebrities as Rumer Willis, Kellie Pickler and Kelly Osbourne.

The label has a line of jewelry from Sequin, a company started by Minnesotans Linda and Kim Renk.

While a movement toward minimalism has made jewelry less prominent for fall 2011, long and layered necklaces sparkled and almost appeared to be part of the clothing.
