The Jets have 24 players who are 25 or younger. That means 45.3 percent of their roster was in second grade or younger when Brett Favre broke into the NFL in 1991.
So you can imagine what it was like when the Jets traded for Favre this offseason. Sort of like watching the T-Rex come to life and follow you home from the museum.
"There's an element of awe," said Jets coach Eric Mangini, "especially for some of the young guys that have been playing Madden with him for years."
Favre is coming off a career-high six touchdown passes in a 56-35 victory over the Cardinals. He's led the Jets into their bye with a 2-2 record a year after they went 4-12. He also leads the league in touchdown passes (12) and passer rating (110.8), and would have to be considered the league MVP front-runner through the first quarter of the season.
Apparently, he's also becoming just one of the guys in the Jets locker room.
"You just try to keep guys from asking for an autograph early on," Mangini joked. "But now he's just part of the group."
