Travis McCabe, an amateur riding for Elbowz Racing, won the 101-mile Menomonie Road Race, the fifth stage of the Nature Valley Grand Prix, on a hilly course through Dunn County in Wisconsin on Saturday.

McCabe, a 24-year-old who was the runner-up in Friday night's Uptown Minneapolis Criterium, outsprinted time trial stage winner Serghei Tvetcov on the last lap of the four-lap closing circuit downtown.

"Serghei is very strong," McCabe said. "I knew I still had something left in me, so I was able to make the jump on the back side coming into that last corner. I pushed it. I know he was closing me pretty quick, but it was enough time."

Guido Palma was third. Overall leader Mike Friedman of Optum finished fifth, 14 seconds back of McCabe, to keep the yellow jersey heading into Sunday's final stage, the Stillwater Criterium.

In the woman's race, Lauren Stephens earned the stage victory by 32 seconds over Team TIBCO teammate Shelley Olds, with Kimberley Wells of Colavita-Fine Cooking finishing third. Stephens' attack of a steep climb with 20 miles remaining enabled Olds to pull within one second of overall race leader Jade Wilcoxson of Optum.

"We're saving it all for the last day, keeping it interesting," Olds said.
