A massive brush fire completely destroyed one beachfront home and damaged two others on Sunday afternoon in the Oakwood Beach area of Staten Island. A total of 30 houses were evacuated as a precaution, interrupting some Easter celebrations. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was contained by late Sunday.

While the start of the fire is still being investigated, gusty winds in the area played a role in fanning and spreading the fire. Winds gusted as high as 40 mph at New York City's JFK International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
