PLAYER TO WATCH

Frank Mason III, G, Kansas

The 5-foot-11 senior is arguably the leading candidate for national Player of the Year. But that might change if he doesn't come up big in Kansas' monumental matchup Saturday at Kentucky. Mason struggled with 15 points on 6-for-16 shooting in Tuesday night's 85-69 loss at West Virginia.

GAME OF THE WEEKEND

(1) Kansas at (4) Kentucky

5:15 p.m. Saturday, ESPN: This game has no conference title implications, but these two might meet up again in the NCAA tournament. The winner will no doubt need big-time performances from their talented freshmen like Josh Jackson from Kansas and Malik Monk, De'Aaron Fox and Bam Adebayo for Kentucky.

FINAL THOUGHT

The NCAA will announce its first list of the top 16 seeds for March Madness on Feb. 11. We get it, it's like the weekly College Football Playoff standings. But don't we talk about the NCAA tournament enough with bracketology this and bubble team that? This won't help make the actual selection process better, and that should be the top priority.
