Mankato men, Concordia-St. Paul women win NSIC basketball titles

Zach Monaghan scored 24 points to lead Minnesota State Mankato to a 75-66 victory over Winona State in the championship game of the NSIC men's basketball tournament on Tuesday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Assem Marei had 19 and 10 rebounds and Connor O'Brien 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Mavericks (29-4), who won the tournament for the second consecutive season and set a single-season record for wins.

Riley Bambenek scored 19 points and Mark Blacklock 16 for the Warriors (26-7).

Winona State got within 70-64 with one minute to play.

Concordia (St. Paul) 58, Northern State 36: The Golden Bears held the Wolves to a season-low in points in winning the NSIC women's title game, played before the men's final in Sioux Falls.

Ameshia Kearney scored 17 points to lead Concordia (25-8) to its fourth title in this tournament. Rachel Hansen, the tournament MVP, had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Bears. She is a senior guard from Eagan.

Rachel Krogman had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Wolves.

Concordia shot 37.9 percent, Northern State (24-6) only 25 percent. The Wolves also committed 14 turnovers, the Golden Bears seven.
