Minneapolis authorities say a man who crashed into a building the night of Feb. 6 had been fatally shot.

Officers found the man when responding to a crash on the 3300 block of Chicago Avenue at around 8:25 p.m. They found the driver, whose vehicle had crashed into a building there, had been hit by gunfire, according to information released by the department the next day.

There was no one else in the vehicle, police said.

Despite CPR and medical aid, the man died at the scene. The man’s name will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

“My thoughts tonight are with the victim’s family,” MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said in a statement. “Any gun violence in the city is unacceptable. Our investigators will work tirelessly to follow all leads.”

Anyone with information about the shooting can email Minneapolis police at policetips@minneapolismn.gov or call 612-673-5845.
