The St. Paul man whose cluttered yard was cleaned out by city crews filed a claim against the city Tuesday for $75,000 to $100,000 in alleged losses.
Lenny Anderson demanded immediate payment for the loss of his property, which he listed as lumber, boats, motors, firewood, trailers and a wave runner, among other items. He accused the city of "deliberate, willful and malicious acts."
On Sept. 8, city employees and work crews filled 10 Dumpsters and a truck with property from Anderson's yard on McKnight Road South. The move came after a year in which Anderson, 70, received several notices and deadlines to clean up his property. The city executed a similar but less thorough cleanup in 1999.
Anderson has said the city unnecessarily destroyed many working, legally stored items, including a camper. The city has said it gave Anderson enough time to comply and had to take action when he didn't.
