PETE ALONSO 53 HOME RUNS
The Mets sensation broke the rookie record Yankees star Aaron Judge set in 2017 in a 3-0 home victory over Atlanta. A 24-year-old who debuted on Opening Day, Alonso launched a fastball on a 1-2 count from Mike Foltynewicz 415 feet just to the right of straightaway center field. "It's surreal. It was almost like an out-of-body experience," said Alonso, the major league leader in home runs.
JUSTIN VERLANDER 3,000 K's
The 36-year-old became the 18th big-leaguer with 3,000 career strikeouts, reaching the milestone in fourth inning of a 6-3 victory over the host Angels when he got Kole Calhoun swinging. Verlander is the second pitcher to reach the mark this season, joining the Yankees' CC Sabathia. He finished with 12 strikeouts in six innings, giving him an even 300 this season, and improved to 21-6 on the season.
