The hot air mass that has cooked large sections of the United States earlierthis month backed off for a short bit, but will spring back with a vengeanceearly next week.Late last week, the heat was tempered in areas such as St. Louis and KansasCity, though blistering hot temperatures are on the move to the east.

As the jet stream slides north, hot air will make its presence felt as itsurges out of Texas and Oklahoma into the Midwest Monday. Tuesday intoWednesday, temperatures will approach 100 degrees as far east as Kentucky, withheat again surging into the Southeast. Though the humidity will not be quite ashigh as the previous stretch, moist air will make for even hotter heat indices.
