Seimone Augustus, the Lynx's leading scorer, will be the co-grand marshal of the GLBT Pride Parade at 11 a.m. today (Sunday) which runs down Hennepin Av.

Augustus said she was flattered to be asked. "It is always a privilege and an honor to be in a parade," she said, "but a parade like this, which is significant, with everything that is going on with marriage, legalization and stuff like that. It is important to show that I am for the cause.

"I am one of the people that is going to be out there celebrating. Me and my partner (fiancee LaTaya Varner of St. Paul) will be out there. It is just an amazing feeling to be able to show my support to them."

Augustus said she attended the parade once before. "But it was real short," she said. "Like we had practice, so I kind of caught the tail end of it. So this time I really get to get a full experience of it."

The Lynx have Sunday off from practice. They beat Chicago 79-67 on Saturday to improve their record to a WNBA-best 12-1. Augustus scored 10 points, all in the second half.

"Being from Baton Rouge, La., down South period you don't really see many gay pride parades," Augustus said. "Mainly in Atlanta, somewhere like that. Just to see how comfortable people are, you can be yourself and be open and enjoy loving one another and people accepting it. it is a great cause."

Augustus and Varner are planning a May 2013 wedding.
