PORTLAND, ORE. – Minnesota United FC released its official roster Wednesday night before the team's Major League Soccer regular-season opener Friday at Portland.
Loons set their roster
The 25-man roster comprises three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 11 midfielders and three forwards. Teams can carry up to 28 players.
The roster:
Goalkeepers: John Alvbage, Patrick McLain, Bobby Shuttleworth
Defenders: Francisco Calvo, Justin Davis, Vadim Demidov, Joe Greenspan, Brent Kallman, Jermaine Taylor, Jerome Thiesson, Kevin Venegas
Midfielders: Bernardo Anor, Josh Gatt, Ibson, Miguel Ibarra, Ismaila Jome, Bashkim Kadrii, Collin Martin, Kevin Molino, Mohammed Saeid, Rasmus Schuller, Collen Warner
Forwards: Abu Danladi, Christian Ramirez, Johan Venegas
Demidov, 30, will serve as team captain. Davis, 28, one of eight players with ties to the team's North American Soccer League years, will serve as vice-captain.
One name missing is Thomas de Villardi, a drafted player whose contract is still begin finalized. He suffered an ankle sprain in a match against San Antonio on Sunday and will be out for a week.
