Some elementary schools -- both public and private -- have a high rate of unvaccinated kindergartners.
While the percentages include both conscientious objectors and those with a medical exemption together, the statewide average percent of kindergartners with a medical exemption for vaccinations -- those students who are medically frail -- is less than half of one percent. This means that the vast majority are opting out of vaccinations based on philosophical belief.
The data, which is from the 2013-2014 school year, does not represent kindergartners who are simply behind on their vaccination schedule. It represents only those with a legal exemption.
The Department of Health groups some private schools with the local public school district.
