The Minnesota Court of Appeals has affirmed a lower court ruling that an elderly South Dakota man accused in a 1974 fatal stabbing isn't competent to stand trial.
The BA.4 and BA.5 variants were identified in Minnesota and present concerns because they caused outbreaks in a highly immunized population in South Africa.
Thomas Lane was one of three officers convicted in federal court and expected to face trial next month on state charges. In exchange for the plea, Lane agreed to a sentence of three years, to be served concurrently with his federal sentence for violating Floyd's civil rights. That sentence has yet to be handed down.
