The trio will play a series of seven weekly gigs every Thursday through Feb. 27 at Fitger's Brewhouse and, according to a tweet from frontman Alan Sparhawk, they will "attempt" to play every song in their entire catalog in random order during the residency. Yes, even including their many B-sides. No word yet on whether they're going to play the original 15-minute version of "Do You Know How to Waltz?" or the 28-minute version offered at Rock the Garden. …
Speaking of the finer of the Twin Ports, there's a gem of a new song called "Duluth (Pull Me Into Your Soul)" on the debut album by Fair Oaks, a new band led by Andy Ulseth. The western 'burbs native garnered a buzz as a solo singer/songwriter a few years ago and now has a female harmony partner (Molly Manning) and full Americana-ized ensemble behind him, with occasional organ and pedal-steel and hints of Andrew Bird and Head & the Heart. Their release party is Saturday at Icehouse (11 p.m., $5). …
A tradition started before the Movember craze, famously woolly faced local rocker Gabriel Douglas of 4onthefloor fame kicks off the Grow Out Blowout — a beard-growing contest for charity — with his other band Silverback Colony and opener Jack Greve at the Triple Rock on Friday (9 p.m., $10 donation). … Patrick's Cabaret hosts an eclectic quartet for its singer/songwriter series on Saturday with Spider John Koerner, Jack Klatt, Wendy Freund and the Brass Kings' Steve Kaul (8 p.m., $10). …
Literally one of the warmest winter gigs in town, the Como Conservatory's Under the Glass series is in full bloom and will feature Parisota Hot Club amid the plants this Sunday (4:30-6:30 p.m., free). Future players include the Urban Hillbilly Quartet (Feb. 2), Cafe Accordion Orchestra (Feb. 16) and the Ericksons (Feb. 23). … The Nomad Pub is throwing after-parties for Pert Near Sandstone's Winter String Gathering shows with Horseshoes & Hand Grenades on Friday and Tin Can Gin on Saturday (11 p.m., $5). …
An addendum to last week's news, the Replacements' two gigs at the Coachella Music Fest in Indio, Calif. (April 11 and 18) are the only shows the band has on its docket for now. Paul Westerberg's manager, Darren Hill, said, "We agreed to Coachella last year but couldn't announce until they did. There are absolutely no other shows on the books at this time."
