It pays to read the fine print in national publications, because Minnesotans have been getting plenty of ink. Earlier this week, a silk chiffon dressing gown by Minneapolis designer Joy Teiken of Joynoëlle was featured in a glossy Women's Wear Daily insert, WWD Intimates. "It's nice to have people notice me again," she said. Before stepping out of the national scene to have a son in 2008, Teiken was in the publication five times for her clothing designs.
"We called in dozens and dozens of lingerie designers and picked out the ones that were most appropriate for the shooting," said Bobbi Queen, the publication's senior fashion editor. "[Teiken's] things are quite special."
Two Twin Cities accessories designers had their items in national publications recently. In the August issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, the "cherub" clutch by Laura Nelli of Nelle is featured, and InStyle's "Hair" special issue highlighted Shayla Boger's Livesavvy floral Liberty-inspired headband.
Twin Cities salons also received a major national shout-out: In a beauty article about "America's Best Hair" in the August issue of Elle magazine, Jon Charles in Minneapolis and FiveTwoSix in St. Paul were listed among the top 100 salons.
Target creates style app Putting together an outfit without toiling away in a dressing room has never been easier than with Target's Merona: My Look Maker. The interactive Facebook application lets users mix and match looks from the Merona collection. (Note: The line is available in women's sizes, not juniors.)
With basics in multiple categories (sunglasses, shoes and dresses), you have many options to mix and match. Plus, the app offers "stylist tips" such as, "Play with complementary colors like yellow and violet to turn basics into contemporary looks." Once you create an ensemble, one click will take you to the products on Target.com. You can inspire others with your style sense by submitting the look to an online gallery.
Visit www.facebook.com/target and click on the "Merona" tab, or go to www.target.com/merona for a link.
Makeup on the road Need a touch-up? You're in luck, because next week Bare Escentuals will offer "quickies" throughout the Twin Cities.
