Letter of the Day: Soon-to-be history NWA tail told the story of her life

I'm more than a little saddened to see the red tails on the Northwest airplanes disappearing one by one … replaced with the colors and logo of Delta Air Lines. While I know that in today's economic market, mergers and business changes happen, it still takes a little bit of who I am away from me.

See, my life started on Northwest back on April 18, 1977. That was the day that I arrived in Minnesota from South Korea via Northwest at the age of 5 months, welcomed by my waiting adoptive parents: John and Cindra Carnahan.

Back in my childhood, the stories about my arrival included "the red tail" on the Northwest plane. When I was a young child and would travel with my family, it was always pointed out, and I've always felt some kind of a bond with the airline (strange as that may sound).

Since that time, I've flown well over 600,000 miles on Northwest and have been a loyal customer of the airline — in part because of the nostalgia, in part because I like my first-class upgrades and elite status.

At the end of the day, it makes me sad to see those red tails disappearing! But I will always have the memories of the stories and the arrival, and, of course, even more important, the most loving family in the world!
