SAN ANTONIO - Timberwolves guard Malcolm Lee's lost second season will require not one but two surgeries this week in New York City.
Lee, a 2011 second-round pick who signed an unusual three-year guaranteed contract then, will have surgery Monday to repair cartilage in his right knee. Wednesday, he will have hip surgery at a different hospital.
He will miss the rest of the season after playing 16 games.
The Wolves are likely to have a surgical trifecta in New York next week: Kevin Love is likely to undergo surgery for that refractured right hand that will keep him out eight to 10 weeks after the operation.
Waiting for J.J. The Wolves practiced for about 20 minutes -- a quick walkthrough to prepare for a Sunday night start at San Antonio -- on Saturday without either injured J.J. Barea or ill Lazar Hayward.
Barea has been in Dallas since Wednesday getting treatment on his hurting back by a doctor he knows there from his five years playing for the Mavericks. Acting head coach Terry Porter said there's "a chance" Barea will rejoin the team in time to play Sunday.
Otherwise, the Wolves will come to him: They play at Dallas on Monday.
