LeBron James had a serious collision during Thursday night’s Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game but unfortunately it was with a spectator rather than a player.
The 6 foot 8 inch NBA star dove off the court after a loose ball and landed in the front rows of seating, on top of PGA golfer Jason Day’s wife, Ellie.
She was then carried off the court on a stretcher in a neck brace and taken to a nearby hospital, according to multiple reports. Day is said to be OK but was held overnight for observation.
The game was temporarily halted and James went over to Day to ask if she was alright, she squeezed his hand and said, “doing great,” ESPN reported.
Australian pro golfer Jason Day went with his wife to the MetroHealth Medical Center. The couple live in Columbus, Ohio, and regularly attend Cavaliers games at the Quicken Loans Arena.
“It wasn’t anything out of the usual besides the injury,” James said about the game, according to ESPN. “But to me, obviously her health is very important, and hopefully she’s doing well. The guys told us she’s doing great now.
“I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep the possession going, and I hate that that was the end result of it,” he added.
The NBA legend later tweeted his well wishes to Ellie Day.
It’s not the first close call that LeBron has had with fans. Last May against Atlanta, he almost ran into a pregnant woman courtside.
The Cavaliers ended up beating the Thunder 104-100.
