Growing herbs Have you always wanted an herb garden but didn't know where to start? Kitchen in the Market is holding a class on choosing, planting, harvesting and preserving exotic and everyday herbs, such as lemongrass, edible flowers and varieties of basil and thyme. The class is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Midtown Global Market, 920 E. Lake St., Minneapolis. Cost is $25 and includes tastings and refreshments. Register at www.kitchenin themarket.com.

Fairytale and other gardens Pahl's Market Open House will offer free seminars on starting a new garden as well as container and fairy gardens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 6885 W. 160th St., Apple Valley. Fruit tree how-to A fruit tree education class covers the basics of soil nutrition, aeration and drainage to grow a successful orchard or garden, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bachman's Heritage Room, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. Cost is $20. Register at www.mnproject.org.
