A snowstorm will move across the eastern Great Lakes region today and into Canada by Tuesday morning. The heaviest snow behind the storm will fall today from eastern Michigan through southern Ontario, where 3-6 inches will accumulate. Detroit will receive an additional 2-4 inches of snow.

A general 1-3 inches will fall through Tuesday around portions of the Great Lakes and in the Appalachians. The mountains of West Virginia and the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina will even have up to half a foot of snow.

Travel will be slowed with slick roads even where a wintry mix is expected, so travelers and commuters are urged to take caution.
