Late penalty kick enough for Portland vs. NSC Stars

Ryan Pore scored his league-leading 13th goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 68th minute on Saturday, giving the Portland Timbers a 1-0 victory over the NSC Minnesota Stars at the National Sports Center.

Portland's Bright Dike was on a breakaway after stealing the ball inside his own half, and NSC Stars goalkeeper Joe Warren tripped him. Warren was sent off with a red card, and the Stars played the remainder of the game with 10 men.

Against backup goalkeeper Matthew VanOekel, Pore then drilled home the PK.

The defeat kept the Stars (7-11-7, 28 points) in fifth place in the USL Conference of the USSF Division 2 Pro League with five matches to play. Portland (9-7-7, 34) took sole possession of fourth place.

Saints fall to Lincoln Lincoln first baseman Juan Camacho went 4-for-5 with three RBI, and the Saltdogs used six sixth-inning runs to beat the St. Paul Saints 10-8 in an American Association game at Midway Stadium.

Gerard Haran went 3-for-5 for the Saints, who were outhit 16-11. Saints pitcher Jacob Schmidt gave up 12 hits and seven runs in 5 1/3 innings.
