La Velle E. Neal III: Guerra promoted to Class AAA; could Gibson get bump, too? The Twins have promoted righthanders Cole DeVries and Deolis Guerra to Class AAA Rochester. DeVries was 1-3 with a 4.43 ERA at Class AA New Britain, where he was mostly a reliever. Guerra, the last player remaining from the Johan Santana trade with the Mets, was 1-1, 3.07 in five starts. They are escaping a New Britain team that is 6-23. But Rochester is 12-18. DeVries pitched at Eden Prairie and the University of Minnesota. Rochester needs pitchers after knuckleballer Charlie Zink went down because of an elbow injury and righthander Yoslan Herrera quit.

For now, righthander Kyle Gibson, the No. 1 pick in last June's amateur draft, is staying put at Class A Ft. Myers.

The Twins, who have won eight in a row, will have an extra off-day as drizzly weather is hitting the East Coast.
