What a rainstorm this has been already, and there is more to come. Thursday, torrential rain inundated eastern Maryland, eastern Pennsylvania and upstateNew York. Many locations have already measure a half foot of rain, and it'sstill coming down. The heavy rain band will shift slowly east Thursday night and Friday, producingat least another 2 or 3 inches of rain in New Jersey, southeastern New York andsouthwestern New England. This doesn't take into account any torrentialdownpours that will come from scattered thunderstorms this evening.

All the water has led to flooding from the mid-Atlantic northward. Not only isthere water accumulation in low-lying areas, but many bigger rivers have orwill soon overflow their banks. The flooding will wash out bridges and makesome low-lying roads impassable.

This brings up the topic of driving through water. I know people do it, but Istrongly advise against it. When a strong current is involved, it doesn't takelong to get in a whole heap of trouble.

Friday, the storm will be over in the mid-Atlantic region, but New England willcontinue to get a soaking much of the day. Over the weekend, we can sound the"all clear" as far as the storm goes, but some rivers probably will not havecrested yet.
