Kocet`s Corner--The Spring Roller Coaster

March 26, 2010 at 7:25PM

In the winter, cold rules; in summer hot weather is king. The spring season isdifferent with plenty of big ups and downs. Perhaps that is why it is calledspring. In any case, the overall trend is for warmer weather during the springseason, even though there are often major setbacks. The biggest swings intemperature during late March and April occur across the Central and Northernstates. The South becomes consistently warm.Regarding the current weather, first let's take a look at the cold side ofthe story. A genuine arctic air mass overspread the Northeast today, and thestage is set for a record cold night. Northern New Hampshire and northern Mainewill have reports of subzero temperatures at daybreak, and 10s and 20s will bewidespread to the south. Quebec Province will be even colder with may placesdropping below zero overnight.

Enough about that cold stuff... Now on to something a little more comforting.

Sunday, much warmer weather will expand through the Rocky Mountain region, boosting temperatures into the 50s and 60s. The warmth will expand across theGreat Plains early next week, and 70s will be within reach all the way to theDakotas. The warm wave will start to be felt in the East long about Wednesday, and the Easter weekend could be super.

Remember all that snow that just fell in Colorado? Well, a little more willfall Friday night, but whatever's left will disappear very fast Sunday andMonday. That's, of course, at lower elevations. The mountains keep good snowcover into May. When I was out in Colorado a couple of summers ago, there werestill patches of snow on Pikes Peak, while in Denver the temperature shot past90 degrees every day.
