Measles and travelers

More than 120 people in 17 states have come down with the measles, many of them sickened as a result of an outbreak in December at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. But only travelers who have had neither measles nor the vaccine have any reason for trepidation. Cruise ships and airlines do not investigate the immune status of passengers, but they do bar anyone who is obviously ill from boarding.

Next time you board a Delta flight, you may be sharing a seat with Jack and Joe. That's a new drink created by an Atlanta-based Delta flight attendant, whose recipe won an international contest among flight attendants. The Jack and Joe, now available for $10 on most Delta flights, combines Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey whiskey with coffee and Baileys Irish Cream. Los Angeles Times

Miss Clara is a boutique hotel that opened last April in a handsome Art Nouveau building from 1910 that was formerly a private girls' school. Though the name is a tribute to a onetime headmistress, Clara Stromberg, there's nothing schoolmarmish about this stylish 92-room property. Owned by the same hospitality group as Stockholm's luxurious Nobis Hotel, Miss Clara can be considered the more accessible (read: budget-friendly) younger sibling with a similar dedication to beautiful design. Swedish architect Gert Wingardh updated the interiors with modern artwork, furnishings and lighting, but preserved period details like the wrought-iron staircase and large arched windows that overlook Sveavagen, a bustling artery that cuts through the heart of the city. Miss Clara typifies the Swedish "not-too-much, not-too-little" sensibility, a good value with an urbane vibe in an area that's on the rise.
