Key dates for the Timberwolves

The draft is over, and now begins the march toward the season:

June 28, 2015 at 12:21AM

June 30: The NBA's period for negotiating with free agents begins at 11 p.m. Central time.

July 8: The first day NBA teams can sign the free agents with whom they've been negotiating the previous seven days. Also that day: The Wolves will hold a summer-league scrimmage at Target Center open to the public. Expect Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, Shabazz Muhammad, Gorgui Dieng, Adreian Payne and newly drafted Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyus Jones to play, among others, in an event that could draw 10,000 fans or more.

July 10: Wolves' summer-league team opens play in Las Vegas against the Los Angeles Lakers, a game featuring No. 1 Towns and No. 2 D'Angelo Russell. Or Tyus Jones vs. Russell, if you prefer.

Late July-early August: NBA regular-season schedule released.

Sept. 29 (estimated): Wolves open training camp.
