Binns secures Iowa diversity job
Broderick Binns, a St. Paul native, was named Iowa's executive director of diversity, equity and inclusion. He has held that position on an interim basis since it was created in August.
Binns, who played for Cretin-Derham Hall and was a defensive end for the Hawkeyes from 2008 to '11, was an Iowa graduate assistant in 2014 and 2015 and in April 2016 was named the team's director of player development.
As DEI director, Binns, a Black man, will continue to be responsible for assisting Iowa athletes — especially underrepresented students — with making a smooth transition into college life.
