PCS Residential of Eagan was the biggest remodeling company in the Twin Cities metro last year based on revenue, according to an annual survey by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC).

PCS, which has operations throughout the Midwest and revenue of $14.2 million in 2014, specializes in insurance claims and other exterior improvements.

BATC's executive director, David Siegel, said the remodeling industry in the metro has reported steady growth in 2014.

"Not only do these numbers show that we have number of outstanding remodeling companies in the Twin Cities, they demonstrate that coming out of the recession, we're now seeing remodeling grow and that the average project size is increasing as well," said Siegel. "Families are finally following through with their remodeling plans after years of worrying if they could afford it."

After PCS Residential, here are the region's next-biggest companies:

2. Ispiri LLC, Woodbury, $8 million revenue

3. Kuhl Design & Build, Hopkins, $7.3 million revenue

4. Finished Basement Co., St. Louis Park, $7 million revenue

5. James Barton Design Build Inc., Apple Valley, $6.6 million revenue

Those rankings, by the way, are based on a voluntary survey, and each company has verified the self-reported information to the best degree possible. BATC said that John Kraemer & Sons of Edina and Revision LLC of Wayzata did not participate in the survey, but might have been large enough for the top five list.

A recent national survey by Houzz, the remodeling and design website, also shows growing confidence in the industry. Its first-quarter Houzz Renovation Barometer shows an increase in inquiries, new projects and the size of those projects.

The Houzz survey showed that significantly more firms are reporting quarter-over-quarter gains than declines in new business, and that a seasonal uptick in demand at the end of the winter months is expected to continue.
