Josee Stiever scored two goals, in the 60th and 87th minutes, to lead the Gophers soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Iowa on Thursday at Robbie Stadium. The senior midfielder from Cedarburg, Wis., has seven goals this season.
Simone Kolander, who assisted on Stiever's first goal, made it 3-0 Minnesota in the 89th minute.
Keeper Tarah Hobbs got her fourth Big Ten shutout for the No. 17 Gophers (10-3-1, 4-1-1 conference). Iowa (7-7, 1-5) was outshot 15-4.
Loons' Ramirez hurt
Christian Ramirez, the leading goal-scorer in the NASL, will not play for Minnesota United FC against Puerto Rico FC on Saturday in Bayamon because of a high ankle sprain.
Ramirez suffered the injury Wednesday in a 2-2 tie on the road with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
He scored his 16th goal of the season in the first half of that match.
Ismail Jome, who has one goal in eight games, will replace Ramirez on the roster.
United, in a battle for the fourth and final playoff spot, is 0-4-1 in its past five matches. Puerto Rico has won three matches in a row and is 3-0-3 in its past six.
