THE BREAMMYS

Critic Jon Bream picks the most award-worthy moments of Sunday's show.

PROJECT RUNAWAY

Who did the makeup for Elton John (left) and Lady Gaga on their opening duet? Their cheeks looked like they'd been smudged by the St. Paul Winter Carnival's Vulcanus Rex.

GLEE DAY

Teaming punk trio Green Day with the Broadway cast of their upcoming "American Idiot" on "21 Guns" seemed like an odd nod to TV's "Glee."

MINNESOTA IN THE HOUSE

Although Twin Citians Prince and Brian Setzer lost, St. Louis Park-bred guitarist Sharon Isbin triumphed in classical, and the Derek Trucks Band, featuring Minneapolis-born singer Mike Mattison, won for contemporary blues recording. But the best Minnesota moment came when Ringo Starr (right) presented record of the year, wearing a T-shirt from the Electric Fetus, a Minneapolis headshop that opened when the Beatles were still a band.

COMES A TIME

Neil Young, one of the pillars of rock music, got his first Grammy ever. But it was for art direction, not artistry, on his boxed set "Neil Young Archives Vol. 1."

ODD COUPLES

Pint-size teen Justin Bieber -- paired with tall, trashy Ke$ha -- flubbed and said "Beyoncé" when he meant "Bon Jovi." "Sorry, Jay," he said, nodding to Beyoncé's husband, Jay-Z. Weirder yet were rapper Mos Def and opera superstar Placido Domingo, presenting the Grammy for best rap/sung collaboration. Can't wait for their duet.
