Jimmy Kimmel has been picked to host the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air on Sept. 23 on ABC. It will be the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" host's first time performing those duties for the Emmys, which is surprising considering the amount of hosting work he's done for other awards shows, including the American Music Awards and ESPN's ESPY Awards.

Executive producer Don Mischer said he hopes for "a show that is fast-paced, humorous, unpredictable and at times irreverent, but clearly celebratory of our incredible industry."

Kimmel also is set to host the White House Correspondents Dinner next month, another high-profile job made notable by Stephen Colbert's scathing routine in front of President George W. Bush in 2006. The Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live.

Bobby Brown arrested

Singer Bobby Brown was arrested Monday in Reseda, Calif., on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officers pulled him over for talking on his cellphone but then administered a field sobriety test. The arrest comes four days after the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released the results of its autopsy of Brown's ex-wife, Whitney Houston, who appears to have used cocaine prior to her collapse in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub. Houston, 48, was determined to have accidentally drowned Feb. 11 following an apparent heart episode with cocaine as a contributing factor.
