The Twins are promoting Jake Cave, a lefthanded hitter from Class AAA Rochester, to fill Tyler Duffey's roster spot ahead of Saturday's game against the Angels at Target Field.

Cave, 25, had a three-game stint with the Twins last month and homered in his major league debut, May 19 against the Brewers.

Acquired by the Twins in a March trade for Luis Gil, Cave has hit .280 AVG/.361 OBP/.414 SLG in 50 games for Rochester this season. He has three home runs in his past 10 games with the Red Wings.

The move leaves the Twins with 12 pitchers on the roster. Duffey threw four scoreless innings in his latest stint with the Twins, but was optioned to Rochester after Friday's game.

"Tyler was better upon his return, not a ton of appearances, but more effective including [Friday] night, he got a nice clean ninth inning for us," manager Paul Molitor said. "Just looking at our roster here with a couple games to go before an off day, being in fairly good shape with our bullpen.

"Bench has been a little bit slim in terms of options late in games. The Angels being so righthanded dominant in their bullpen. Knowing we can probably could use a potential one or two pinch hitters late in the game, we just try to supplement with a guy in Jake who's probably been the most consistent down there of late for Rochester."
