The Jacksonville Jaguars are going with quarterback Nick Foles over rookie sensation Gardner Minshew.

Coach Doug Marrone made the announcement Tuesday, saying Foles is ready to return from a broken left collarbone and will start next week at Indianapolis.

The Jaguars (4-5) have a bye week before then. Marrone said following Sunday's 26-3 loss to Houston in London that he would take some time before deciding whether to go with Foles or Minshew. The coach needed less than 48 hours to make the call.

Foles signed a four-year, $88 million contract with Jacksonville in March.

Newton on IR

The Panthers placed quarterback Cam Newton on injured reserve. Newton has missed the past six games while trying to battle back from a mid-foot sprain. Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney said that after seeing two specialists that the team was told "it likely will take significant time for the injury to fully heal."

Etc.

Former Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead issued an apology on Instagram for his postgame tirade Sunday on Twitter that led to his eventual release from the team on Monday.

Whitehead was cut Monday after he posted several threatening and profane messages on Twitter following Cleveland's 24-19 loss in Denver on Sunday.

The 26-year-old starter directed one of his messages at a former NFL player who had questioned his tackling. Whitehead used a derogatory racial term toward the player, and in another response to a fan said "Imma kill you."

On his Instagram page, Whitehead expressed remorse.

"I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for my actions following our game with Denver," he wrote. "That was totally out of character for me. I do not justify my actions, but was extremely frustrated with the way I had played and our team losing because of it. I was playing with a broken hand, but that is no excuse for my actions, and I am deeply regretful.''

• The Eagles placed DeSean Jackson on injured reserve on the same day the wide receiver had surgery to correct a core muscle injury suffered earlier this season.

• The Titans placed cornerback Malcolm Butler on injured reserve after he injured his left wrist Sunday against the Panthers.

• Kansas City team president Mark Donovan signed a long-term contract extension. Terms were not disclosed.

Perla was accused of raping a student during a wine-tasting outing in June 2015. Some of the files are so heavily redacted that on many pages no words are visible. Perla is one of 113 UC employees found to have violated the system's sexual misconduct policies in rece
