Ford's big news for 2009 centers on its new crossover vehicle, the Flex. The unusual looking new model is one part wagon and one part SUV. A V-6 engine powers the Flex, which has EPA fuel economy ratings of 16 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. Car and Driver reports that the Flex sells for a base price of $37,250.
The rest of the lineup for Ford? A Sport version joins the Edge crossover lineup for 2009. The Escape SUV gains horsepower. The Explorer SUV model now has a new trailer yaw-control feature as standard equipment. The E-series van will have a new instrument panel, rear doors that open wider and a first-ever navigation system option. Ford's Focus has "freshened" front and rear styling. The Fusion is unchanged for 2009, but a revised 2010 Fusion will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. A redesigned F-150 debuts for the 2009 model year. The popular Mustang will be available with a glass-roof option, and the limited edition Bullitt model returns to the lineup. Finally, the Shelby returns in two forms. The 540-horsepower Shelby GT500KR is revived for a limited 2009 production run. Meanwhile, the GT500 coupe and convertible are expected to appear shortly after the regular- production Mustangs in early 2009.
Unchanged for 2009 are the Crown Victoria, Expedition/Expedition EL, Focus sedan, F-Series Super Duty, Ranger, Taurus and Taurus X.
