Julie Torgerson and Kurt Nordwall of Eagan bought an extremely powerful "flashlight" to help keep an eye out for coyotes when their dog Barney is in the backyard. A couple of weeks ago, Julie says, "Kurt was out with the dog and I snapped some photos of the beautiful snow. I didn't think this one turned out until I put it on the computer. Sure, it gets cold. And let's not even bring up windchill. Especially in February, when we're already eager for any sign of spring. But winter also gives us breathtaking scenes like these that make us think that maybe a little more winter wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.


Karl Reichert of Minneapolis took this photo Christmas morning. "The sun dogs were magnificent in Clearwater County ... when it was about -22 degrees. In fact, I have never recalled seeing sun dogs this brilliant in my life," says Karl, who has photographed Seljord Lutheran Church many times over the years, and as a kid could see the church from his bedroom window. In this photo taken Monday, March 6, 2017, in San Francisco, released confidential files by The University of California of a sexual misconduct case, like this one against UC Santa Cruz Latin Studies professor Hector Perla is shown. Perla was accused of raping a student during a wine-tasting outing in June 2015. Some of the files are so heavily redacted that on many pages no words are visible. Perla is one of 113 UC employees found to have violated the system's sexual misconduct policies in rece
