Two federal agents have been placed on leave for making “untruthful statements” about the events that led to a nonfatal shooting in north Minneapolis last month, the Department of Homeland Security said today.

“The men and women of ICE are entrusted with upholding the rule of law and are held to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct,” said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. “Violations of this sacred sworn oath will not be tolerated.”

Yesterday, federal prosecutors filed to drop charges against two men accused of assaulting a federal immigration agent during the Jan. 14 incident, citing “newly discovered evidence.”
