White House border czar Tom Homan said this morning that 700 federal agents will be leaving Minnesota after “significant progress” in cooperation between state and federal officials.
Homan said an “unprecedented” number of counties were cooperating with the federal government to coordinate the transfer of immigration targets to federal officers from county jails.
President Donald Trump sent Homan to Minnesota late last month to manage immigration enforcement operations on the ground, after federal agents fatally shot a second person in Minneapolis. Homan is negotiating with local officials on a deal for county jails to cooperate with federal immigration officials, the Minnesota Star Tribune exclusively reported. Homan previously said that cooperation would lead to a drawdown in Operation Metro Surge.
