How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Wednesday

Rising corporate profits and a jump in oil prices helped push the stock market to a modest gain on Wednesday. Delta and Intel led the way up after turning in results that beat Wall Street's forecasts.

For the day:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 75.91 points, or 0.4 percent, to 18,112.61.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 10.79 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 2,106.63.

The Nasdaq composite added 33.73 points, or 0.7 percent, to 5,011.02.

For the week:

The Dow is up 54.96 points, or 0.3 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 4.57 points, or 0.2 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 15.04 points, or 0.3 percent

For the year:

The Dow is up 289.54 points, or 1.6 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 47.73 points, or 2.3 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 274.96 points, or 5.8 percent.
