How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared Wednesday

Another plunge in the price of oil nudged the stock market mostly lower Wednesday.

On Wednesday:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 6.62 points, or 0.04 percent, to 17,673.02.

The S&P 500 index fell 8.52 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,041.51.

The Nasdaq fell 11.03 points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,716.70

For the week:

The Dow is up 508.07 points, or 3 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 46.52 points, or 2.3 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 81.47 points, or 1.8 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is down 150.05 points, or 0.8 percent.

The S&P 500 index is down 17.39 points, or 0.8 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 19.35 points, or 0.4 percent.
