How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared on Wednesday

U.S. stocks are ending lower for a second day in a row, pulling the market further below record highs reached earlier this week.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 106.47 points, or 0.6 percent, to 18,096.90.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 9.25 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,098.53.

The Nasdaq composite lost 12.76 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,967.14.

For the week:

The Dow is down 35.80 points, or 0.2 percent.

The S&P 500 is down 5.97 points, or 0.3 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 3.61 points, or 0.07 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 273.83 points, or 1.5 percent.

The S&P 500 index is up 39.63 points, or 1.9 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 231.09 points, or 4.9 percent.
