Stocks returned to record territory on Monday as the market delivered its fourth gain in as many trading days. The Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's 500 index each notched record highs. The market was building on a big gain last week.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 154.64 points, or 0.9 percent, to 17,959.44.
The Standard & Poor's 500 gained 7.89 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,078.54.
The Nasdaq composite added 16.04 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,781.42.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,382.78 points, or 8.3 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 230.18 points, or 12.45 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 604.83 points, or 14.5 percent.
