The beach is "so big you felt like you were the only one there," Wanner said in an e-mail. "It was stunning to look across the beach at the progression of sand, water, mountains and clouds. When travelers think of Ireland, they usually think 'green,' but the blues and grays I found there were just as beautiful."

The St. Pancras Renaissance hotel in London is a magnificent Victorian architectural landmark that has been brought back to life with a $250 million renovation. It had been closed from 1935 until May, a period when it functioned only as a backdrop for movies such as "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and "Batman Returns." The revived hotel, a Marriott property, is both functional and a fantasy, with its grand staircase, soaring ceilings, stone gargoyles, granite pillars and dark wood paneling.
