The present

Three Gophers are from Minnesota, with two of them powering the 15-2 start. Amir Coffey (Hopkins) is the true freshman top recruit, junior Reggie Lynch (Edina) is the transfer stabilizing the post and freshman Michael Hurt (Rochester John Marshall) has shown promise in limited minutes.

The future

Richard Pitino and the Gophers did not sign any Minnesotans for the next class, the 2017 crop. Pitino missed on some and looked elsewhere (namely, the New York City area) for his two spots. It could be a different story in the years following, however. Here's a look at the Minnesotans who are juniors, sophomores and freshmen in high school this season and have been offered a scholarship from the Gophers:

2018 Class

Race Thompson (6-8 SF/PF), Armstrong

Tre Jones (6-2 PG), Apple Valley

Daniel Oturu (6-9 PF/C), Cretin-Derham Hall

Gabe Kalscheur (6-4 SG), DeLaSalle

2019 Class

Matthew Hurt (6-9 SF), Rochester J.M.

2020 Class

Jalen Suggs (6-3 PG), Minnehaha Acad.
