Author of the award-winning young-adult novel "Stupid Fast," Geoff Herbach knows how to fashion a love story. When formulating his holiday wish list, he envisioned a narrative that involved, what else -- a decked-out love den.

1. Love Sac

"Please don't get the one with the Beaver Phur cover -- that's too much," says Herbach. He longs to snuggle in a two-person beanbag covered in Love Sac's attractive "chocolate rhinoplush." (available from Love Sac at Mall of America • www.lovesac.com • $699, $599 on Black Friday)

2. Metalwork lamp by Kristin Arden

Just like any gritty man with soft, rounded edges, Herbach pines for a heavy-duty lamp, preferably by local metalworker Kristin Arden. (www.kristenardenstudio.com • $595)

3. Alemar Cheese Company's Bent River Camembert

A newly christened assistant professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Herbach keeps busy exploring the various small businesses near campus. Herbach is especially fond of this Mankato-made cheese, already a favorite among Twin Cities food lovers. (available from Kowalski's or Grassroots Gourmet at Midtown Global Market • $24.99 per pound)

4. "Get In If You Want to Live" by John Jodzio

No romantic holiday is complete without "a book for us to read and study on our Love Sac." Herbach wants this limited-edition John Jodzio short story collection, which was luxuriously assembled and art directed by Minneapolis' own Paper Darts. (www.paperdarts.org • $15)
