PHILADELPHIA – Miami Marlins All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his dislocated left thumb.
The move Friday was retroactive to Sunday, and came as the Marlins prepared to play a weekend series against the Phillies. Gordon was replaced on the roster by infielder Martin Prado, who had been on the disabled list since mid-June because of a right shoulder injury.
The Marlins had said Gordon might not need to go on the DL, but the injury isn't healing as quickly as hoped. He was hurt last Saturday sliding headfirst.
Gordon leads the majors with 122 hits and ranks second with 33 stolen bases. He was voted an All-Star starter for the first time and attended the game Tuesday as a spectator.
