Three Minneapolis libraries in the Hennepin County system will celebrate Juneteenth this month:

• North Regional Library, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Sumner Library, 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22.

• Webber Park Library, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

Juneteenth celebrates the news that slavery had ended. That news did not arrive in Texas until June 19, 1865, about 2½ years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

Events will include the Voice of Culture Drum+Dance, the Million Artist Movement, the Black Storytellers Alliance and other presentations.
